This (as well as the image below) are samples of work I did on M-Audio's Quick Setup Guides. I was asked to take the multi-page printed book layout for quick start guides, and turn that into a single sheet multi-language layout that would instruct the user how to setup up their new M-Audio product.

 

The idea was to use as many illustrations as possible which would save money on translations, as well as improve the look-and-feel for the out-of-box experience.

 

I was also responsible for writing any text for these documents. I would be given the product and experience how to set the product up, and explain that in the document with either text or illustrations.

 

These documents went through 2 or 3 review cycles with other writers, developers, managers.

When finalized, I would send any text out for translation, drop that text in when it came back from translation, and create the final print and web pdfs (sometimes I was able to reuse text for new product guides, which would save even more money for the company).

This and the image below are sample pages from an M-Audio keyboard assembly sheet. Me and the technical writer were to open the unit and assemble it so we could create assembly instructions for the buyers. I took photographs of the experience and traced illustrations (Adobe Illustrator) for the guide; the technical writer gave me any text that was needed.

 

I was then responsible for sending it out for translation, and created final print and web PDFs.
